BESS Rebates
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming a key way for Australian homes and businesses to manage costs and demand. Government support, including the Cheaper Home Batteries Program and new NSW incentives, is helping make battery installations more affordable.
Eligible systems linked to Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) in NSW and South Australia may also qualify for additional rebates.
NSW PDRS BESS Rebates:
BESS5
The NSW PDRS supports Commercial and Industrial Businesses investing in large-scale BESS to manage high demand and reduce peak electricity usage.
BESS4
A new PDRS incentive helps Small and Medium Businesses install battery systems ranging from medium to large capacity, up to 200kWh.
BESS3
A dedicated incentive helps Apartment Buildings install shared battery storage and reduce electricity demand during peak periods.
BESS2
A one-off incentive is available for customers who connect an existing or new battery to an Approved VPP to support the grid during summer peaks.
BESS1
A point-of-sale discount makes new battery installations more affordable for Residential and Small Business customers.
National Battery STCs
An upfront incentive helps eligible homes and small businesses reduce the cost of purchasing and installing new battery storage systems.
SA REPS VPP1
South Australian customers may qualify for REPS incentives by connecting their battery to an eligible VPP.
VEECs - Insulation Rebates
The VEU ceiling insulation activity gives installers and suppliers an opportunity to offer customers more competitive pricing through available rebates.
With Victoria’s new Minimum Rental Standards taking effect from 1 March 2027, demand for compliant ceiling insulation is expected to increase significantly.

When Can You Access It?
Stage 1:
Already available for eligible social and community housing properties.
Stage 2:
From 1 October 2026, the activity will expand to standard Victorian homes and rental properties.
Insulation Requirements
Property type
- Residential homes, including houses, terraces and townhouses.
- Individual apartments and flats within multi-unit residential buildings.
Existing ceiling insulation
- The ceiling has no insulation installed, or only reflective foil beneath the roof.
- Existing insulation is in place but has an average thermal rating below R2.0 and is not compressed.
Eligibility Criteria
- Property must be at least five years old.
- New developments and newly built homes are not eligible.
- The incentive does not cover wall or underfloor insulation.

STC -Battery Storage Rebates
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program helps eligible households and small businesses reduce the upfront cost of installing a battery system. The program is designed to help customers store more of their rooftop solar and make greater use of their own renewable energy.
The program commenced on 1 July 2025 and is scheduled to run through 2030.
Rebate Requirements
- The battery must be listed on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved battery list.
- The system must have a nominal capacity between 5 kWh and 100 kWh.
- The system must not have previously received a discount under the program.
- STCs are calculated using usable battery capacity, with claims available for the first 50 kWh.
- The battery must be installed with a new or existing solar PV system.
- The system must be capable of connecting to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
- Installation must be confirmed through a certificate of electrical compliance or equivalent documentation.
- The program covers residential and small-scale battery systems; electric vehicles are excluded.
- The system must be configured as a single BESS, including modular battery configurations.
- Additional capacity may qualify if it is at least 5 kWh and the total system capacity does not exceed 100 kWh.
- Systems can be installed on-grid or off-grid. On-grid systems must be VPP-capable but do not need to be connected.
- The battery owner at the property is generally eligible to receive the STCs generated by the system.
