Large-Scale Generation Certificates

(LGCs)

(LGCs)

Large-Scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) represent renewable electricity generated by eligible solar, wind, hydro, and biomass projects under Australia’s RET.

Each LGC represents 1 MWh of renewable electricity generated and can be traded for financial value or surrendered to claim the associated renewable benefit.

How Are LGCs Created?

The LGC process begins with project accreditation and registration with the CER. Once registered, eligible renewable generation can be converted into LGCs, each assigned a vintage year. The scheme will operate until 31 December 2030, marking the planned completion of the Renewable Target.

How Organisations Use LGCs:

LGCs can be held, traded, or surrendered. Organisations may use them to support renewable generation and sustainability objectives, while others trade them to generate additional revenue.
