Small-Scale Technology Certificates
(STCs)
STCs
Turn renewable electricity into financial value with STCs. These tradeable certificates form part of Australia’s RET and support the adoption of eligible small-scale renewable technologies.
The value and number of STCs depend on system location, renewable output or electricity displacement, and the years remaining until 2030.
1 STC = 1 MWh Clean Electricity
How Are STCs Created?
Eligible small-scale renewable systems can generate STCs up to 100 kW., including
solar wind turbines solar or air heat pump water heating systems
An Authorised Certificate Provider ensures the installation meets the applicable rules before creating the relevant certificates. Some projects may also qualify for state-based certificates, depending on the technology and location.

The Future of STCs
Once STCs are created, they can be sold, traded, or applied toward project costs. Organisations may transfer certificates to liable entities, such as retailers, or use them to support their own sustainability objectives. Revenue from STCs can help offset the upfront cost of eligible projects.
